The glucomannan, is able to absorb a very large amount of water once it reaches the stomach, thus increasing up to 60 times its volume, and assuming the consistency of a very viscous gel. For this reason it provides a clear sense of satiety which reduces hunger and promotes weight loss. It also limits the absorption of fats and slows down the sugar, making it even more fluent and easy to expel the route of the food bolus in the digestive tract.

It is impotant to take at least 1 gram of glucomannan an hour before meals with abundant fluids: after a quarter of an hour it begins to gel, reaching a peak of volume after one hour.
